In 1949, Mary Bivins established the Mary E. Bivins Foundation as a nonprofit, religious, charitable and educational undertaking to benefit the people of the Texas Panhandle. Mary Bivins had a sincere and abiding interestin helping to provide senior living opportunities and services, regardless of socioeconomic status of those served. In 2002 the Mary E. Bivins Foundation was reorganized with its primary operations conducted through the Lee Bivins and Betty Bivins Childers Foundations.

The Bivins Foundations are committed to improving and enriching the quality of life in the 26 counties of the Texas Panhandle by meeting the physical, mental, social and spiritual needs of the people of the region. In this spirit, the Foundations offer retirement communities and senior health care services dedicated to helping individuals achieve and maintain dignity, independence, self-worth and good health.

In the more than five decades since Mary E. Bivins created the Foundation bearing her name in Amarillo, tens of thousands of elderly citizens have benefited from the snior living services created and developed through the Mary E. Bivins Foundation. The Mary E. Bivins Foundation has provided nearly $86 million to aid and assist over 145 nonprofit organizations and numerous students through its grants and scholarships program.
